FOUNDER & LEAD THERAPIST
Sarah (SJ) Jacob, LCSW
My path toward becoming a therapist started with a passion for service. Service to the community and, more importantly, service to a cause greater than self. Throughout my life, I found myself becoming wrapped up in all aspects of service, including volunteering with organizations providing sober rides home on the weekend, working in local soup kitchens, becoming a Special Olympics Coach, leading service-learning trips on school breaks, and volunteering for the local Rescue Squad as an ambulance driver. When I discovered social work as a career path, it felt like I finally found what I was supposed to do in this world.
After receiving my Bachelor of Social Work, I went on to serve for AmeriCorps City Year in Washington, D.C. where I worked in a first-grade classroom and assisted children with their socio-emotional learning and coping skills. After City Year, I went on to receive my Master of Social Work from NYU and currently work in NYC's transitional housing sector as a social worker. With several years of direct service experience in the shelter system and after obtaining my LCSW license, I transitioned into a teaching role, training shelter staff in evidence-based practices. This shift reinforced my dedication to integrating trauma-informed approaches within our systems.

Service
Service is a foundational value I hold dear. It is a privilege to be able to support others through difficult moments and I hold this responsibility with deep reverence.
Spirituality
I believe there is more that binds us together than what keeps us apart and I try to invite this awareness into my work. What mission do you believe you have within this life? Let’s find that answer together.
Social Justice
I am dedicated to an anti-racist and intersectional practice, committed to challenging and reshaping systems that have been designed to serve some while marginalizing others.

Running has given me a renewed sense of self and encouraged my practice of radical acceptance. Training for the 2024 NYC Marathon while listening to countless audiobooks on mental health reinforced how movement is the thread that connects my mind, body, and spirit—driving both my personal growth and my commitment to helping others do the same.

Writing has always been a part of my creative release and writing publicly through my blog posts have given me a sense of empowerment. My favorite blog posts include:

As a social worker, I am called to practice cultural humility, embracing lifelong learning and self-reflection to better serve diverse communities with inclusivity and equity. With this commitment, I have found much of my learning through memoirs.
